Told ya! - Ofcom gets complaints over the use of "BASTARD"

Friday, 31 July 2015

Speaking to you guys last night over on Facebook, nobody was really offended by Carol Jackson swearing. A few had problems with the fact that their children are watching.

Well, it seems many people were really upset and complained to Ofcom asking for an investigation. Carol (Lindsey Coulson) called her brother Max Branning a "complete and utter bastard" in tense scenes during Thursday's instalment, having just discovered that he was trying to get his daughter Abi to confess to murder.

Her line which aired at approximately 19:50 last night angered 29 people to the point of actually complaining to Ofcom.

An Ofcom spokesman said: "We will assess these complaints before deciding whether to investigate or not."

The episode's writer Daran Little addressed the scene on his Twitter account last night to apologise for any offence caused, adding in a deleted message that it was the first time a soap had allowed him to use that word.

EastEnders continues tonight at 8pm on BBC One.

Jonny Labey receiving homophobic abuse

Thursday, 30 July 2015

Paul Coker arrived in Walford only a short while ago but actor Jonny Labey who plays Paul has been tharget for homophobic abuse over his gay character on EastEnders.

Jonny, 22, who plays Paul Coker, is involved in a steamy affair with Ben Mitchell – Harry Reid – and they stripped to their boxers for a romp in a funeral parlour.

Jonny said: “People would have been fine if it was a guy and a girl kissing. We need to move on from discrimination against gay men.”
He told Gay Times that EastEnders was trying to show how some gay people found it hard to come out.
Jonny added: “No matter what the storyline is, there’ll be a backlash.

“It was all very positive, I thought, but it wasn’t until I got curious and started nosing around that I found the negative ones.

"But it doesn’t matter if it’s a rape storyline or a murder; there’s always people that are affected by them.
"It doesn’t matter if it’s gay or not, there’s people that don’t agree or aren’t comfortable watching. It’s 2015, you need to move on from this stupid discrimination against gay men!’
"People would’ve been fine if it was a guy and a girl kissing.”

He said: “The first two weeks were unbelievable. I had a topless scene, a crying scene, an argument and a kissing scene. It all went off.

“We’re not representing gay men in general, that’s something we’re certainly not doing.
“What we’re representing is people that felt uncomfortable coming out to their parents.
"This is just the story of two gay men, and that story for us is that Ben is uncomfortable in coming out, and it’s the reaction of people who’re wanting him to come out.”

Abi attacks Stacey! (PICTURES)

We all know Abi is not all sweetness and light but next week it will show when she attacks Stacey after she asks her about the night Lucy died.

After Max was wrongly charged with the murder of Lucy, he calls on Stacey to start digging up the dirt. Stacey hit a raw nerve when she asks Abi where she was on Good Friday.

After one too many questions, Abi snaps and attacks her. This will surely leave Stacey thinking she is in fact the killer. Would it be so bad if Abi went away for a little while?

EastEnders airs these scenes tonight (June 30) at 7.30pm on BBC One.

Lola's emotional exit - Wrong?

Wednesday, 29 July 2015

Last night see Lola leave Walford in an emotional episode. After Billy called the police on her boyfriend, Lola felt betrayed by Billy and decided to leave on her own.

She vowed she would forgive Bill but had to leave to start a fresh life in Newcastle.

In our opinion, Danielle Harold who played Lola for four years, was robbed of the part. Her character became stale and the character had no decent storyline in the last 12 months. With all the focus going on to the Carters and the Beale's, EastEnders had no choice but to let some characters go. Would you have kept Lola?

Well, it's EastEnders and you never know what will happen in a year or two. Lola could easily come back as the door was left wide open.

Jane visits Lucy's grave

Jane and Ian are starting to struggle with that fact that an innocent man will spend time behind bars for Lucy's murder. Things will get too difficult for Jane in the coming weeks.

Jane is seen kneeling at Lucy's grave holding a flower as the guilt becomes too much to handle.

Last night's episode also showed Ian Beale struggle to keep the truth. In our opinion, Phil Mitchell will be the next person told about the lie just in time as Kathy's return is set to rock Walford.

Could Jane be about to crack under the pressure?

EastEnders continues on BBC One tonight (July 28) at 7.30pm.

Libby will be back in Walford next week but something is not quite right with her. She is hiding a secret. Libby returns to celebrate her birthday with mum Denise and the rest of the family.

Things get awkward when Vincent invites Shirley, Buster and Dean for the dinner, despite Denise's earlier request that they are not welcome.

Denise is frustrated with Claudette for cooking dinner and when the arguments start, Libby walks in. Denise is left embarrassed when Vincent buys her daughter an expensive gift.

Later Libby takes a call in private, she's talking to her sister Chelsea, she explains she hasn't had the time to tell her mum her secret.

The party soon comes to an end when Vincent arrives home after a slap around courtesy of Phil Mitchell. Libby decides it's a perfect time to leave, leaving Patrick and Denise furious at Kim about her husbands behaviour.

After saying goodbye to her mum outside, Libby tells Chelsea that she was unable to tell her mum what she planned to.

EastEnders airs these scenes on Monday, August 3 and Tuesday, August 4 on BBC One.

Ronnie catches Dean and Roxy in the act leaving Roxy to end things. The pair have kept their fling a secret since they started seeing eachother last month.

With Dean becoming frustrated that Roxy wants to keep everything secret, she later agrees to go to Libby's birthday party with him.

Roxy fails to turn up to the party but when an angry Dean finally finds her, they share a kiss.

After Ronnie finds her sister locking lips with a rapist, she demands they stop seeing eachother. Dean is left furious when Roxy does break things off with him.

Dean knows that Ronnie is behind it and confronts her. Ronnie soon fires back at him that he does not have what it takes to look after her sister.

Later, Dean sneaks round to see Roxy but after the pair end up in bed, he is forced to hide in the wardrobe when Ronnie arrives home but he is shocked at what he finds in the wardrobe with him.

Vincent will turn to Ronnie Mitchell next week when tensions appear between him and wife Kim. When Vincent arrives home, Kim says she is fed up and calls time on their marriage.

Kim explains he is bring trouble into her and baby Pearl's life and with a little persuasion from Denise and Patrick, she kicks him out of the house.

Vincent really wants his marriage to work but Denise refuses to let him see Kim.

Vincent and Kim finally meet and together take Pearl to the 'Bonniest baby competition' when she agrees to give him one more chance. With Ronnie, Charlie, Linda and Mick also hoping that their babies will be crowned the winner, everyone eagerly awaits the results of the competition.

Later Vincent arrives to see Ronnie and kisses her, reminding her that he can have what he wants. He later tells Ronnie he is not interested and wants to concentrate on his marriage but even Vincent himself struggles to believe his own words.

Broken Ben - PICTURES

Ben has spent the last week mocking the police, he is a Mitchell after all. But this week Ben will break down and finally crumble.

Ben gets frustrated that DCI Marsden isn't believing his lies, he feels there is only one way out of this mess . . could Ben be thinking of actually telling the truth?

Poor Max is also being fingered by the police and they seem to be closing in on a charge. They constantly ask him where he was on the night of the murder. It's looking more likely that Max is looking at going down.

EastEnders airs these scenes tonight at 8pm on BBC One. Check below for a preview of tonight's episode.

Phil finally puts Vincent in his place (PICTURES)

Sunday, 26 July 2015

Nobody comes to Walford and tries to take 'top dog' ownership over Philip Mitchell. A few weeks back Phil took a hit from Vincent leaving us all wondering if Phil finally met his match. Vincent is surprised to be knocked off his feet by Phil in these recently released pictures.

So what happened? Well Sharon has been slacking off a little and Vincent tells him that if Sharon doesn't start pulling her weight, he will change the business.

Kim later arrives at The Albert to see it has a new name, Pearl's. Phil turns up but is not as happy as Kim and attacks Vincent for disrespecting his family. Phil's warning is now set in stone but we don't think Vincent will listen.

EastEnders airs these scenes on Monday, August 3 at 8pm on BBC One.

It is seeming more and more likely that Max Branning will be charged with Lucy's murder. We all know there is a big twist coming up but could it be that max actually killed Lucy? We highly doubt that but that's what the other news sites are reporting.

Max Branning actor Jake Wood is leaving EastEnders for a year but could bosses be using it as a red herring or will Max be charged with murder and be kept in custody pending a trial date. After the news spreads about the arrest, two people prepare to leave Walford for good.

We do think that Jake needs a break, his character has become a bit redundant and stale which is not his fault but when you think the storylines he has had this past 5 years it's not surprising. Bring Max back with a bang in 12 months Jake!

Paul spots Les and Claudette having a good 'ol laugh together and grandson Paul's behaviour has been spotted by Pam. Paul takes it upon himself to warn Claudette away from the family and later, while talking to Pam, she confesses she believes Les and Claudette are having an affair.

We get a little key drama next week, well we say drama, it's probably more teasing. That's pretty much it! EastEnders are however, in our opinion, gearing up for something big. People inside are being a little too quiet for our liking which usually means one thing. Another big return? A big stunt? Who knows but you will as soon as we do.

Jessie and Shane, The Perfect Murder

Jessie and Shane who play Kat and Alfie in EastEnders are set to take to the stage in the production of The perfect murder.

The perfect murder is a revival of last years adaptation by best selling author Peter James' work. The pair will play husband and wife Victor and Joan Smiley. Their marriage reaches a point where Victor wants Joan out of his life forever but he’s about to get a nasty surprise. As a young Detective Roy Grace starts to investigate his very first homicide case, dark forces intervene and he begins to fear that nothing is quite as it seems quite as it seems.

“It has always been my dream that one day the curtains would rise in a theatre and a play of my work would be performed. That dream came true in 2014 after a chance meeting with my old friend, producer, Joshua Andrews. The first run of The Perfect Murder, was a sell-out and we have followed that this year with an even more successful run of my best-selling book Dead Simple. To now have Shane Richie and Jessie Wallace star in The Perfect Murder really is another dream come true.

"Shane and Jessie have been loved on television by huge audiences over a number of years, which just goes to show how great they are together and I can’t wait to see them planning to murder each other on stage every night," says James.

Producer Joshua Andrews adds; “I am thrilled that Shane and Jessie have chosen The Perfect Murder. They really are ‘perfect’ casting for Victor and Joan. Hopefully, we might see a limited London run at the end of the tour.”

Richie and Wallace have starred together in EastEnders for the past 13 years and also also found time for numerous other TV and theatre credits.
Richie says: “It’s an honour to be attached to Peter James work as I’m such a fan of his books.”
Wallace adds: “As soon as I read the script, I knew I had to do it. Watch out because sparks are going to fly and it’s the perfect murder.”

BBC ban Jake Wood from judging G-A-Y competition

With Jake Wood taking time off from EastEnders, he signed up to be a celebrity judge for a night at London's famous G-A-Y nightclub.

G-A-Y run a competition called 'Porn Idol' a competition that judges male strippers. Jake signed up a few months back thinking it would be fine.

Because he is still under contract with BBC, they told him that it would be inappropriate for him to take part in something like that. A source says: “Jake had been booked for Porn Idol a while ago and was under the impression everything had been given the go-ahead.
“It wasn’t until the day of the event that he got wind the BBC had any issue with it at all. He had no choice but to pull out.”

An insider at the hit soap says: “ EastEnders were not aware Jake was taking part in G-A-Y Porn idol until the day of the event.

“He thought it had been cleared through a booking agency but, unfortunately, it hadn’t and as everyone knows, EastEnders’ bosses are mindful of where their artists appear as it is a family show.

“It’s not the bosses, G-A-Y or Jake’s fault but the booking agency, which made a 10/10 balls-up.”

Earlier this year, Gillian Taylforth was lined up to judge the same competition – but Beeb bosses threatened legal action after posters were put up that read: “Kathy Beale is not dead, she’s judging G-A-Y Porn Idol.”

FIGHT! Max and Phil continue in tonight's episode (PICS)

Max will be shocked tonight when he finds out his daughter Abi has grassed him up to the old bill! Tonight's episode picks up from last night when Phil punched Max.

Phil lashes out at max after being convinced that he murdered Lucy Beale. Max is in total shock when Phil shouts at him that Abi is on her way to the police station to write up her statement.

Max decides to make a run to the cop shop to stop his daughter and get some answers. Will he make it? Well with Jake Wood leaving the soap it's unlikely.

Declan Bennett who plays Charlie Cotton is to bid farewell to Walford. Declan is currently filming his final scenes as EastEnders bosses decided it was time his character was written out of the show.

An EastEnders spokesperson said: "We can confirm that Declan Bennett will be leaving EastEnders. We wish him all the best for the future."

Declan was spotted filming his final scenes at a train station with Roxy (suitcase in hand) and baby Matthew.

Charlie arrived in Walford last year when he conned his grandmother into believing her son Nick was dead. He later went on to having a relationship and baby with Ronnie before starting a romance with sister Roxy.

EastEnders will air Charlie's exit in early autumn.

EastEnders Gets More Complaints

So, we had a feeling that EastEnders would get a few complaints about Ben and Paul's fumble in the funeral parlour but it seems the complaints were more about the implied gay sex rather than the fact they were fooling around next to a dead body.

The UK TV Watchdog received around 50 complaints about the scene. A spokesman from Ofcom said the episode that they received the complaints about the episode that aired on July 17, which included a sequence in which two male characters seemingly enjoyed a secret liaison next to the body of a dead woman in a funeral parlor. The pair was seen wearing just their underwear and embracing before a knock on the door.

An episode that aired last year which implied a rape received 90 complaints>

a BBC spokeswoman said that fans of the show "know and expect dramatic storylines" and that the scenes in the funeral parlor were "implied and not explicit." Ofcom has said it will look into the issue before deciding whether to investigate.

Harry talks Ben and mum Kathy: 'She reminds me of my mum!'

Talking to Fiona on The Lorraine Kelly show this morning, Harry Reid explained how Gillian Taylforth is the perfect on screen mum for him.

He said: "We've met a couple of times, [she's] a perfect on-screen mum for me, really is, reminds me of my own mum in many ways, very down to earth, just a very normal person, a really lovely person. I felt a real nice connection as soon as we met."

Today marks a year since Harry first started filming as Ben Mitchell, his family are still adjusting to his new fame: "Obviously, it's still quite weird for them. My mum, she's dealing with it, but now she's the local celebrity at work and she just wants to get on with her life. But she loves it at the same time," he said.

"They're obviously very excited for me, they knew I wanted to do this. My nana Pearl made a public announcement in Tesco, she asked someone to announce it on the tannoy, so the whole of Ayr in Scotland know about it, apparently."

Being his first big acting gig, Harry said: 'big gig and it's been amazing. I'd only been out of uni for a year and then I stepped into this..."

"Steve [McFadden] is a great bloke to work with. The character he's created with Phil is amazing. It's a beautifully rounded character. Obviously Jamie Borthwick, who plays Jay, and Letitia Dean, who plays Sharon, I'm surrounded by the heads of EastEnders, which is great for me because I'm learingng off of them."
He added: "Steve is timid. He's lovely, a bubby, happy bloke who loves his art, loves his craft, who's very method in his ways, but look at what he's done with Phil, incredible."
