Shane: "Jessie didn't speak for five years"





Shane Richie revealed that Jessie Wallace who plays on screen Kat "didn't speak" for five years due to the level of mistrust caused by phone hacking.

The actor told the High Court how he and Wallace would leave voicemails for each other.


Their private friendship started to deteriorate after private phonecalls started to appear in daily newspapers.
That impacts a lot on shows like EastEnders where you are working so close. You end up just not talking to each other because you end up not trusting each other," he said.

"After a while, me and Jessie didn't speak for five years because she didn't trust me and I didn't trust her because we both thought we were selling each other down the river with stories, which it turned out of course wasn't true."


Shane who appeared emotional, which will establish the amount of damages against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) for eight people, that castmembers were warned that he was "gobby", while others suspected that their dressing rooms had been bugged.

Richie said that everyone had been "pretty paranoid and suspicious of each other which was a horrible feeling", adding that he felt "really let down" by the revelations.

MGN has accepted that 12 stories published about the actor between 2003 and 2005 were obtained via hacking.

Steve McFadden also spoke in court today, where he detailed the effects of articles on his former co-star Lucy Benjamin.
