When you try and remember what Kat Slater has been through, your mind will probably explode. It won't be long before the previous Queen of the Vic will be sat in a dark corner of a room rocking back and forth.
Not only was her mum Viv, completely unsympathetic with regards to Kat's abuse, she didn't even bother telling her daughter that she gave birth to twins!
Of course Kat doesn't even know that there is a 31 year old man somewhere that she gave birth to. But in all seriousness, this episode gave us an insight in to how Kathleen became Kat. Hats off to James Payne who wrote the episode and of course Wallace who gave the performance of a lifetime!
So what did we learn?
- Kat's mum VIV did not believe her daughter had been abused and used the phrase 'you know what Kat's like' to actually explain the abuse. It is unsurprising that Kat is so troubled and has a hard time nurturing.
- Kat's weird affair with Derek finally got explained. We know now that it was some deep seeded throwback to when Harry was grooming her. ‘It’s like I wanted it to happen again,’ she confessed. ‘He was disgusting.’ Yes dear, he was.
- June Whitfield is fantastic! June portrayed a nun from our own heart. Drinking and smoking, Sister Ruth helped Kat with her troubled past and even helped Kat remember Kathleen. ‘It’s easier, isn’t it? If he raped a little madam rather than a child’ and ‘maybe it’s time for Kathleen to take care of Kat’. Shame this is a one-off appearance.
- Stacey's Key! So Stacey spent a while chatting to a pretend Sean, before asking about the key and being told she was not ready to know what its for. As for Sean. Could there be another comeback on the cards?
