Derek left our screens in December 2013 after he suffered a heart attack in front of his family. It was revealed that he had an affair with Kat Moon in the build up to his exit.
Jamie has had a few projects since he departed EastEnders including a number
of episodes on ITV's Birds of a Feather, movie
The Hooligan Factory and has a number of movie projects lined up from
now until 2022. Love him or hate him, Derek was a fantastic character.
Jamie recently revealed in an interview how he nearly died: 'I had a
massive heart attack a couple of years back and nearly pegged it.
Lauren Crace played Danielle Jones
Lauren was in EastEnders for a year and became best friends with Stacy Branning. It was later revealed that she was the daughter of Ronnie Mitchell.
Danielle had a hard time in Walford, especially with evil grandfather Archie
Mitchell pulling all the strings.
When Ronnie finally realised who she was it was too late. Danielle was hit
by Janine's car and died. Lauren has done fantastically well since leaving
EastEnders, she was a regular on Mr Selfridge. She appeared in
Sherlock, Holby City, and Shameless.
Khali Best played Dexter Hartman
Khali played Dexter for one year and departed in January 2015. Dexter is the son of Ava and the grandson of Cora Cross.
After his mum moved away, Dexter stayed with his gran but things turned a
little sour when she lost her home, so he also decided to move out of
Walford.
Just after Jay and Lola decided to move away with Dexter, Jay was arrested,
he received a telephone call later from Lola to say she was in a
relationship with Dexter and she would not be returning.
Since leaving Khali has starred in a number a number of shows and movies
including Endeavour, Are We Dead Yet, Blue Story and
he's currently working on short movie Looking Back.
