With EastEnders starting to show cracks in certain areas, try not to panic as it's not the first time. When a new executive producer takes over, like many other soaps, the storylines sometimes struggle.
We have now approached the time on-screen with the episodes now airing under the new executive producer, Sean O'Connor.
Although many of you are upset with the recent announcement of cast members leaving, the thing is, it's actually going in the right direction. Some of Sean's first scenes were actually heartwarming. You had Linda and Les, two characters that never really had any screen time together. We were also touched by some lovely scenes between Bex and Kamil, as well as Claudette and Pam.
We were also left with Pam accepting Les' cross-dressing as a duff-duff, instead of a dramatic ending. If a soap starts churning out dramatic plots, one after another, the soap then becomes very tacky, almost impossible to get the point across.
But with scenes like we have seen over the past week, Sean recognises that viewers need to fall back in love with the characters again.
Fans were left deflated recently with the anti-climax between Ronnie and Andy. This usually happens when the boss of a soap leaves, stories just fizzle out. Don't get me wrong, Dominic Treadwell-Collins was fantastic for the soap and made some excellent decisions.
C'mon, you remember back in the day when EastEnders was proper edge of your seat telly? Sean O'Connor is extremely successful and experienced when it comes to producing high quality, nail-biting drama. This is the guy that wrote the "You ain't my muvva!" storyline between Kat and Zoe, also the abuse storylines between Mo and Trevor. We personally feel good for the future of Britain's number one soap, EastEnders is certainly on the up.
