Speaking on ITV's Lorraine, Aaron Sidwell who plays Steven Beale discusses the current cancer storyline and how he has a personal connection to it.
The storyline was especially tough for the actor as a close friend of his was battling with the illness and recently passed away, "I always had Jacqueline so I was able to talk to her the whole time. We have a very close family life, as well as a work one, so I had her the whole time," he said.
Aaron has since released a personal statement online, insisting his decision to leave the soap was mutual, giving praise to EastEnders and the BBC for everything they have done for him.
Aaron has since landed a new role in the award winning musical, Wicked - "When an opportunity like that comes along, you've just got to take it."
Steven Beale is due to leave our screens in September after his storyline takes a dramatic turn.
