Viewers Confusion Over 'Missed Episode'

Here's why Kush and Carmel were back home so soon after surgery

Carmel prepares for surgery

Many viewers were left baffled after Monday and Tuesday's episodes when Kush and Carmel popped up, going about their daily lives as usual, so soon after a procedure for Brugada Syndrome. This left viewers wondering if they had missed an episode.

Kush suffered cardiac arrest last week, leading to a diagnosis. He was told the syndrome could cause heart failure at any time.

According to NHS, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) are fitted transvenously, along a vein. However, they can also be fitted under the skin.

Implantation is either carried out using general anaesthesia, or with local anaesthesia and sedation. During the procedure, a pocket will be created in the left side of the chest where the ICD will be positioned.

After the cuts have been closed, the sensing, pacing and recording functions of the ICD will be tested and adjusted.

It can take as little as one hour, or up to three or more hours, for an ICD to be inserted, depending on the type of device you're having fitted. Many people can return home on the same day as having the procedure.

We personally were shocked at how many of you commented on our Facebook page about having, or knowing someone who has the condition.

Once again it looks like EastEnders are shining a light on something that many people haven't even heard of. For more information on Brugada Syndrome, please visit NHS Choices.
