It has been announced that 66 year-old Irish actor Patrick Bergin, is joining EastEnders later this year. Patrick will play Aidan and will start filming this month and his arrival will air around November.
Talking to the BBC, Bergin said: "It is an iconic show that has the ability to shape the way people think, whilst also telling big explosive stories that keep the audience gripped. "I am really looking forward to seeing what they have in store for Aidan as it's bound to be dramatic."

The BBC say Aidan is an old friend of Phil Mitchell and will turn up on his doorstep, reigniting an old bond . . and trouble of course!
Patrick will work closely with Danny Dyer and Steve McFadden in Christmas storylines that the BBC are keeping tight to their chest
The BBC said: "EastEnders deserves the very best, and in Patrick we are absolutely privileged to have a truly great actor join the show."
Patrick is well known for his roles in Sleeping With The Enemy and Irish television series Red Rock.
