When Mel left Walford 16 years ago, she was pregnant with Steve Owen's baby. Hunter arrives with his mum in the New Year.
Speaking to Digital Spy about being cast, actor Charlie Winter said: "I'm so grateful for the opportunity to be on such an iconic show as EastEnders,"
"It still feels really surreal that this has happened. It's an exciting time for me and I can't wait to get stuck in and for everyone to meet Hunter."
Mel Owen is another character returning under interim executive producer, John Yorke. It has also been revealed that Masood Ahmed, Kat Slater, Tiffany Butcher, Mo Slater and Jean Slater will all be returning.
