Many fans of EastEnders were thrilled yesterday when it was revealed that Kate Oates will be taking over as the head of EastEnders.
Although Kate brought darker and controversial storylines to Weatherfield and the Dales, one thing you can be certain of is she brings the drama.
Here are just a handful of things Kate could introduce to the London based soap when she arrives in the future:
1. No Mass Axing of Characters

We all know by now how it goes in soapland, a new producer is introduced and we see a mass extinction of characters.
When Kate joined both Emmerdale and Coronation Street, she broke the mold when she didn't carry out a mass cull like many producers do.
2. Shorter/Faster Storylines

Over the past couple of years, viewers have felt that storylines have dragged on far too long, including the recent Aidan Maguire New Year's Day heist.
When Kate took over the ITV soaps, the pace of storylines soon pick up in speed, dramatically.
3. More Gritty Storylines

Although we had the tragic Shakil Kazemi killing recently, many of the gritty storylines since 2017 have focused around someone scheming someone else! - When Kate joined Corrie, she introduced many storylines such as: Bethany's grooming, Pat Phelan's killing spree and Aidan's suicide.
Would she be able to please EastEnders viewers in the same way?
4. Family Roots

When she joined Corrie, Kate quickly reintroduced the Barlow family and cemented their future in Weatherfield.
Could Kate reintroduce members of the Slater, Branning, Beale, Carter Masood families?
5. LGBTQ Characters

| EastEnders, BBC One |
Kyle was a much loved character, but unfortunately he was never given any real storylines. Sadly he was axed from the show along with many LGBTQ characters over the last 2 years, including Ben Mitchell, Paul Coker, Johnny Carter and Steven Beale, just to name a few.
Kate is responsible for the ongoing explosive relationship of Aaron Dingle and Robert Sugden in Emmerdale.
6. Bring Back Favourites

| EastEnders, BBC One |
There is a huge pool of characters out there in the world of EastEnders, from Janine Butcher to Lauren Branning and Peter Beale. If anyone can convince them to come back, it will be Kate.
Oates managed to bring back popular characters such as Peter Barlow, Carla Connor, Rosie Webster and Toyah Battersby to Corrie.
What changes would like to see the new boss bring to EastEnders in 2019?
