It was announced last week that the BBC had taken drastic measures over the production of its most popular programmes, including EastEnders and Holby. - As the Coronavirus pandemic continues to have a huge impact on the entertainment industry, all British television channels are now taking measures to protect their workers.

Here's a look at what changes are ahead in soapland during this time.




Coronation Street

UPDATED 22/03: ITV have taken the step to cancel the production of Coronation Street

From 30th March, Corrie will reduce the number of episodes to three per week. One episode on Monday's, Wednesday's and Friday's.

EastEnders

Here's What All Soaps Are Doing During Coronavirus Outbreak

EastEnders have taken the decision to put an immediate stop to the production of the East London based soap following the rapid increase in cases of the virus in London.

In a statement on twitter, EastEnders said: "In light of the spread of COVID-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on EastEnders will be postponed until further notice.

"The decision was made after the latest government update. We will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the World Health Organisation and Public Health England.

"We have also taken the decision to reduce the amount of episodes we broadcast each week to two, so that we can ensure the audience can continue to enjoy EastEnders in their homes for as long as possible."


Hollyoaks

UPDATED 22/03: Channel 4 have taken the step to cancel the production of Hollyoaks

 The soap, which usually airs every weeknight, will now only air on Monday's, Tuesday's and Wednesday's from 30th March.

Channel 4 have also announced that if there is a break in filming which leads to no new episodes, the broadcaster will replace these with some classic Hollyoaks episodes from its 24 year history.

Neighbours

Aussie soap Neighbours were forced to suspend filming last week when an employee came into contact with some who had since tested positive with the virus, but soap bosses have revealed that filming will resume on 23rd March.

Casualty

Here's What All Soaps Are Doing During Coronavirus Outbreak

BBC's hospital based favourite Casualty has suspended filming as of Wednesday 18th March, in line with many of the BBC's programmes. Casualty bosses simply said on twitter: "We'll be back next week!" with no indication of schedule changes. - Sister soap Holby is currently "postponed until further notice" and also has no indication on schedule changes.
