When Will EastEnders Be Back on TV?

When will EastEnders return? Will storylines be scrapped?

We revealed recently that EastEnders will come off the air on 16th June, leaving us with just four episodes remaining. But many of you have been asking when it will return.

EastEnders reduced the number of weekly episodes from four to two back in March, a change in order to keep the soap on air as long as possible, but the government only recently gave the green light to resume filming.

Although no definitive date has been confirmed, EastEnders is rumoured to be off our screens throughout the majority of the summer.

When EastEnders resume filming within the next couple of weeks, remember the turnaround from filming to our TV screens was six to eight weeks, but with strict social distancing measures, this means it's going to take a lot longer.

Make up artists will also not be allowed to work like before, instead they will be tutoring the cast to apply their own. With less people allowed in the editing suite, this will create a longer time frame to complete episodes.

So when will it return? It is estimated we'll see the return of EastEnders by the end of August - beginning of September.

EastEnders executive producer Jon Sen said: "Although the drama from Albert Square will be off our screens for a short time, we are thrilled that fans will have a unique opportunity to see from the cast themselves just what it is like to be part of EastEnders when they see EastEnders: Secrets From The Square."

But what about all the current storylines? EastEnders told Digital Spy: "There are absolutely no plans to scrap all of the show's storylines. Inevitably, there will be a jump in time when the episodes resume following the on-screen break but that doesn't mean all storylines have been scrapped.

"Some stories will obviously have to be tweaked or changed but this is purely down to filming being halted due to the pandemic."

EastEnders currently airs twice weekly on BBC One.
