Brand New EastEnders: Gray and Chantelle Storyline Revealed

With the return of EastEnders just weeks away new spoilers have been released, including what's happening with Chantelle and Gray Atkins.

With an enormous increase in domestic abuse helplines over the lockdown period, it wouldn't be right if EastEnders didn't highlight this within their very own domestic abuse storyline.

Before EastEnders was forced to shut down, the abuse Chantelle was being subjected to was simmering away, and viewers will now see a change after she was forced into lockdown with her abusive husband.

When EastEnders returns to our screens, the locals of Walford will just be leaving lockdown, but while others have found it hard to cope, it will soon become clear that nobody has found it more difficult than Chantelle.

After the last few months of hell, Chantelle comes to the conclusion that enough is enough and set out to leave Gray once and for all.

Speaking about the abusive storyline, Toby-Alexander who plays Gray said: "The show has been working with Women's Aid and I've been on the phone to them a lot.

"There's been a staggering increase in domestic abuse. I think this lockdown has given people a bit of a wake-up call as to how bad it actually is. It should be at the top of everyone's agendas.

"It was incredibly important before, but even more so now. I've heard that people are calling up saying that they're relating to the Gray and Chantelle relationship because it mirrors their own.

"People are watching it, relating to it and getting help from it. We're doing our jobs and that's why we do it."

EastEnders returns to our screens on Monday 7th September, 8pm on BBC One.
