EastEnders cast member tests positive for Covid after Director continued to work while infected

Cast and crew at EastEnders are reportedly furious after it was revealed that a first assistant director continued to work for two days on-set despite feeling unwell, later revealing he has tested positive with Covid-19.

According to The Sun, Joe Nugent felt unwell over the weekend, but decided to return to work on Monday and Tuesday last week.

It was only on Tuesday, after his positive diagnosis, that he revealed his condition. Since his admission, one cast member has tested positive for the virus.

A show official wrote to staff saying: “You will all have heard we had an active Covid case on site. This should serve as a reminder that keeping ourselves and our colleagues safe is an ongoing situation and a shared responsibility.”

Thankfully many stars including Danny Dyer have received negative test results. Danny is desperately trying to be as careful as possible because of his pregnant daughter, Dani.

An EastEnders source added: “The director has let everyone down. The show has worked so hard to get EastEnders back on TV, and he could have undone all that work.

“Senior actors were livid and felt let down. There was talk of a mutiny. He was given the boot, partly to assuage cast members.”

Soap bosses were forced to sack the director and sanitise the entire set. Although filming has resumed, it is unsure if this incident will cause a break in the future schedule of the soap.
