EastEnders viewers were thrilled earlier this year when Linda Carter appeared to learn a phrase in sign to welcome Frankie into their family.
We have included a video which shows you 100 basic signs in under 15 minutes. Learning the skill of hand movements, gestures, body language and facial expressions, will help you to communicate with people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
According to The Sign Community, BSL is used exclusively within Britain. It is a part of the so-called BANZSL or British, Australian and New Zealand Sign Language, all of which derive from the sign language that was used in the 19th century Britain.
Latest statistics show there are 151,000 people using BSL in the UK, and 87,000 of these are Deaf.

Also, something to bear in mind is there are 11 million people in the UK with hearing loss and only 151,000 use BSL as a chosen communication method.
