EastEnders turns 36 years old today, and to celebrate we have a number of trivia posts to share with you over the next week, things that may surprise you.
Long-term viewers of the soap will remember the struggles Martin and Sonia Fowler had, but in 2007 when Natalie Cassidy, who plays Sonia, decided to quit the soap, writers came up with a dark storyline.
The original plan for Natalie's exit would have seen Sonia murdered by her ex-husband after failing to come to terms with her new same-sex relationship.
Thankfully, after much discussion, the plan changed and Sonia would get back together with Martin, played by James Alexandrou, and the pair would leave Walford together.
