EastEnders: Suki Panesar and the actor who plays her

A look at Balvinder Sopal's extensive career and Suki Panesar's future

Who is EastEnders' Balvinder Sopal who plays Villain Suki Panesar?

Balvinder Sopal is a British actor who has had a successful career spanning 20 years across stage and screen.

Balvinder first appeared on our screens as Suki Panesar over a year ago, and it's safe to say the villain is disliked by many viewers.

If the actor looks familiar to some of you, that's because Balvinder has appeared in many British soaps including Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Hollyoaks, and even Doctors.

Balvinder made her professional acting debut as Bhelua in The Beautiful Violin at the Oldham Coliseum Theatre in 2001.

Sopal went on to appear in stage productions such as Absent Friends, Relatively Speaking and The Tales of the Harrow.

Her onscreen debut was in a 2001 episode of the BBC series Kidhaar! as Reena, and in 2008 she appeared in the BBC film White Girl playing Fatima.

The actor went on to star in a number of soaps, playing, P.C. Marks in Coronation Street, Liz in Hollyoaks, and a number of various roles in Emmerdale over the years.

The Future of Suki Panesar

Suki Panesar is disliked by many viewers, and much of that stems from the time the character first appeared on our screens, scamming the local residents and even her own family over her fake cancer battle.

Once EastEnders returned to our screens after the first lockdown, any hope of a redemption storyline was lost when Suki was actively involved in sending her own son to prison for a crime he didn't commit.

Thankfully, later episodes gave viewers a little glimpse into why Suki lives life behind a barrier when the family became a target of racism.

So what will the future hold for Suki? Well, as the family try to rebuild the Panesar reputation, we will likely see the arrival of Suki's husband once he has been released from prison, and that's going to be big!

Currently we have the Panesar's working alongside the Mitchell's, but that's unlikely to last, especially when Suki's husband arrives.

In our opinion, Suki is one of the best villains the soap has created in a long time, and we need a long-running war between the them and another family in Albert Square, just like the good old days!

EastEnders airs weeknights on BBC One.
