EastEnders boss gives update on return of full-length episodes

EastEnders Full Length Episode Update

It's been a crazy year with regards to soapland scheduling, but EastEnders boss Jon Sen has finally revealed that the full-length episodes will be returning very soon.

EastEnders, along with many soaps, stopped filming last year due to the lockdown, but their restricted return last summer see episodes cut to 20 minutes to keep the four-weekly slot possible.

Speaking recently, executive producer Jon Sen has revealed that there are plans to bump the episodes back up to 30 minutes each but there is no confirmed date for this to happen yet.

"So we're doing 20-minute episodes at the moment, we are looking to a future where we can get back to full-length EastEnders episodes and hopefully that will be soon," he explained.

With the tough restrictions imposed over the last year, Jon also praised the cast and crew of the show: "It's been an incredibly challenging year for us all, but we have continued to make the show. We've got through COVID and lockdowns and the pingdemic and we're still making the show,"

"The cast and crew have been amazing, they've learnt new techniques, the cast have been completely revolutionising the way they work, they now work acting to tennis balls like you would do in a Marvel movie and it's been amazing to watch.

"The crew have done the same, they've changed the way they work beyond recognition, so I'm so proud of what we've achieved together and now we're just looking forward to working our way to more normal circumstances as soon as it's safe to do so."

Like many of you, we're relieved to hear the pending return of normality in Walford. Despite no confirmed date, and the delay from production to air date, we could estimate the full length episodes will return around October.

EastEnders airs weeknights on BBC One.
