Permanent Soap Schedule Changes Coming - EastEnders Bosses React

Tim Davie, director general of the BBC has spoken out about the upcoming schedule changes with ITV which will see some major clashes with EastEnders.

ITV announced permanent timeslot changes for their two soaps. Emmerdale will air at 7.30pm each weeknight, while Coronation Street will broadcast its weekly hour-long episodes at 8pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

The changes to the schedules on ITV are said to make way for longer ITV News programmes. While the BBC will keep EastEnders in its usual slots, the ratings will likely become affected due to competition.

EastEnders will now remove its Friday timeslot permanently to Wednesday. This means you will get your fix of EastEnders four nights in a row from Monday to Thursday.

Speaking about the upcoming changes, Davie said: "We're not immune from competitive pressure, let's be honest about it,"

"And you may have a marginal impact or an impact during that hour, but we're confident that the overall case for the EastEnders development remains strong."

"We've just put a new showrunner in there." he said. "We need to keep investing, doing our thing, and that will deliver audiences what we believe make sense for us, both in terms of linear and iPlayer."
