Like the actress herself, we were devastated to learn that Danielle Harold's
character Lola was to be written out of the show for good.
With new details about her exit storyline revealed, we are still sad to see the character
leave, but with this storyline likely to be one of the biggest of the year, I
am thrilled Danielle has the opportunity to show her full range as an actress,
but it's going to be a tough one!
The nation was heartbroken in March to learn of the tragic passing of The
Wanted bandmate, Tom Parker, who sadly lost his battle with brain
cancer.
New details have emerged which reveal Jay and Lola will reunite and viewers
will see the pair finally settle down together, that is until the couple are
torn apart by a terminal diagnosis.
More details of the storyline reveal Jay will remain by Lola's side and nurse the love of his life to the very end.
The storyline will be handled with "grace and care", and soap bosses have
worked alongside a brain tumour charity to create the emotional scripts.
With bosses wanting to give the character a huge send off, they were initially
unsure if Lola would die of a brain tumour or a car crash.
EastEnders concluded on the cancer storyline to emphasize the impact of
Tom's tragic passing.
An insider told The Sun: “EastEnders are desperate to make headlines and drive viewing figures with explosive plotlines, and Lola’s exit will have diehard fans in bits. It will be a compulsive watch.
“But eyebrows will be raised at the internal discussions over Tom Parker’s
untimely death. Some people were left uncomfortable that the inspiration for
boosting viewing figures came from such a real-life tragedy.”
EastEnders airs weeknights on BBC Two and on BBC iPlayer from Monday's.
