The best part about this time of year is when soap bosses reveal their plans about what's in store for characters over the coming weeks and months.
Four of the biggest storylines currently playing out have been teased by the soap, including Linda's return after Mick's departure, Jack's struggles with Amy, and of course Lola's battle with brain cancer.
THE BRANNINGS
2023 looks set to be a trying time for the Branning family as Denise and Jack reach breaking point over Amy's self-harming.
As a worried Jack puts all his efforts into protecting and supporting his daughter, his marriage to Denise is put under immense strain. Is EastEnders hinting at an upcoming affair storyline between Denise and another Albert Square resident?
LINDA CARTER
Linda Carter returns in upcoming episodes, but the Vic landlady will be the focus of a huge storyline this year, with soap boss Chris Clenshaw saying: "She’s not going to get over Mick very quickly. She was just reunited with him then he was snatched away from her, so it won’t be all smiles straight away, but there are big plans for Linda."
WHITNEY DEAN
Fans of Whitney have been very vocal over their frustration over fewer scenes/storylines involving the character, something that happens when bigger storylines are playing out, but fear not, we're going to see a lot more of Whitney and her blossoming relationship with Zack Hudson, but it's soapland so it's not going to be plain sailing!
Upcoming episodes will see Zack come face-to-face with someone from his past. Zack is determined to make his relationship with Whitney work, but his future plans are definitely put at risk by the newcomer.
LOLA'S BATTLE
Hearts across the country are breaking for much-loved character Lola Pearce. The young mum was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour, leaving Lola and her family devastated.
Upcoming scenes will see Lola come to terms with the realisation that her time is running out. As her health continues to deteriorate, Lola finds an old photograph which will set her on a journey of discovery. Could this be the arrival of her mum?
