BBC Responds To Recent Complaints - Plus Poll

On Friday, EastEnders aired an episode in which Bobby Beale attacked his mum with a hockey stick. Jane was left unconscious and the aftermath will be shown on Monday.

Viewers were shocked with the violence, which was shown before the 9pm watershed. A BBC spokesperson told the Mirror: "EastEnders is a fictional drama and our millions of regular fans who tunie in each week know and expect dramatic storylines.

"However, we are always mindful of our time slot in which we are shown and we ensure all scenes are editorially justified.

"The scenes in question were the crescendo of a long running storyline that has shown Bobby to have previous violent tendencies."

What do you think?

  10. Grrrrrrr.....watch it at a later time if you have kids up!!! Not like no one knew what was coming up was it. Besides, there was nothing shown that was graphic. Was filmed and shown extremely well and sensitively. You would have complained if there was nothing shown at all in relation to the storyline so EastEnders can't win either way! Get off ya soapboxes and switch over in future. Seen bloody worse on the 6 of clock news and I bet you have kids around then....and if those who complained haven't got kids, go watch something else.

  11. Why has everyone got a problem with what time eastenders is on? Bobbie hit Jane, but what about anything else that's happened in eastenders and the times they were on?

  12. Who cares as worse things than a small bit of violence that all you saw was before the hit and a splatter of blood such as rape

  13. Nothing extremely bad was even shown, not really! You never saw the part when bobby was hitting Jane with the hockey stick, you only ever saw the blood. Genuinely think that the way EastEnders did this scene was extremely well and very sensitive in the fact nothing over violent was shown!

  15. If it was me I be wanting more, like camera turning around after he hit Jane. With the look on Eliot face. These people got nothing Elsa to do,except complain about nothing, they need to get a life. Plus there kids should be in bed by the time eastenders come on. Well done eastenders

  19. Agreed ! I always either record Or watch later as I'm generally getting kids sorted for bed at the time when eastenders is on. If the kids were up watching it , that would delay their bedtime and my evening time. My kids aren't interested in watching 'Enders anyway - even if they were to stay up to watch it ! Some people really do have nothing better to do than to moan about nothing ! Can't shield everything from kids , they have to learn somehow

  20. All comments valid ie don't watch kids shouldn't be watching but is the law no sex or violence before 9pm not applicable to the BBC

  22. It was hardly a scene from saw!!! A small amount of blood spatter on a cake... I've seen more blood come out my knee from falling over!!! Its a soap, its not real!! It's the making of a good story and the kid thay plays Bobby does it well.

  23. why is people worried about it you didnt see anything only blood on a cake im sorry but people are making a big fuss about it but no one has grumbled abot peggy taking an overdose wich in my eyes would of been somthing to complain about . as some have mentioned it has been on the internet and in the mag so why let children watch somthing when you know whats coming up. kids should be in bed or record it and watch it later when they are in bed . it happens in real life and yes its only a soap . rant over

  24. I fon't get what the big deal is. It was only abit of blood & the scene played very well. I mean come on its not as if they showed you Jane with her head all covered in blood, mashed or split open or even a hole in it. Some people really need to get a grip .

  25. don`t watch it, if your afaid of a bit of fake blood, you didn`t see nothing at all and don`t try f*** it up for other ppl who like to watch Eastenders.

  26. Eastenders is a drama soap and has to approach difficult but day to day life events. (Cancer, depression, money struggles, fighting etc). You can keep putting rose tinted glasses on if you wish but the fact is, this is what happens in REAL life!

My eight year old daughter enjoys the soap and I must say that I doubt that double blow by the 'character' Bobby would have gone down well with her, but after a quick reinforce of the fact that it is just pretend would have been fine.

Although my eight year old daughter watches it, the fact is that children below the age of 10 years old should really in my opinion by in bed at 8pm so this should not have really needed addressing.

Another fact of life - You can't and will never please everybody!

  27. Some kids need to see these things to learn right from wrong! It was very well edited and overall outcome was brilliantly done. Well done EE AGAIN!!!
