EastEnders turns 36 years old today, and to celebrate we have a number of trivia posts to share with you over the next week, things that may surprise you. How about a bomb explosion?
Let's face it, fires and explosions are not uncommon occurrences in Walford, and the Queen Victoria pub has probably been the most scorched building in Albert Square. But most of those have been set deliberately.
Matthew Robinson, who was the boss of the soaps at the BBC from 1998 - 2000, explained that a number of disasters would have made Walford a completely different place today.
One storyline they toyed with, one that would have created a massive cast culling, would have seen a bomb detonated in Albert Square.

Thankfully the storyline was scrapped, most probably due to the scale and cost of the production, but it would have saved many characters from ending up in the history bin of EastEnders.
