I can't believe I'm writing this, but it's almost time for us to say goodbye
to much-loved character, Stuart Highway.
We have been championing Ricky Champ's character for years, a character that
has seen many highs and lows, but it's all coming to an end. Here's what we
know so far...
After turning his life around, securing a respectable job, getting married to
Rainie and having their first child together, things started to crumble around
him.
Stuart was diagnosed with breast cancer, followed by post-natal depression.
His wife left him soon afterwards leaving him to fight his battles alone.
After being sacked from his job as an undertaker, Stuart's behaviour will
start to spiral out of control. Those around him try desperately for him to
get the help he needs, with Karen Taylor accompanying him to the doctors,
where he loses his temper and disposes of his antidepressant medication.
Later, when Linda spots Stuart speaking to a drug dealer, she intervenes which
leaves him furious. But after purchasing the drugs, he has a change of heart
and decides not to take them, even heading off to apologise to Linda.
Looking for Linda at the Vic, Stuart is met by an angry Mick Carter who has prior experience with Stuart's behaviour towards Linda.
Stuart realises he needs help, so he tries to make an appointment at the doctors
surgery, but when he's told there are no appointments available, he flies off
the handle, until Bernie steps in to help.
During a heart-to-heart with Bernie, she apologises for not realising he had
post-natal depression, and for helping Rainie leave Walford.
Soon afterwards, Stuart continues to be convinced he was misdiagnosed about
his breast cancer, growing very desperate by the hour.
Thankfully, Stuart later comes to terms with his diagnosis and leans on those around him for support, something he's refused for some time.
How will Stuart's final days in Walford end? Could we see Rainie return as the
pair leave Albert Square together? Or will Stuart head off alone?
